Gifted Conference Brings Together Parents, Educators and Mental Health Professionals

I’m looking forward to the upcoming SENG Summit in Seattle July 15-17.  I’m excited that there is a high profile conference, with attendees from all over the USA and a few international visitors, where all of the sessions are about the social and emotional needs of gifted individuals.  Most conferences about giftedness focus primarily on educational issues.  SENG stands “supporting emotional needs of the gifted.”I’ll be one of the presenters at the three day conference with a breakout session on Friday, July 15 at 2:30pm called “Beyond Academics: Discussion Groups that Nurture the Emotional Development of Students.”  Here’s the description:

  • Discussion groups are an often over looked school-based intervention that have a huge pay-off in social and emotional benefits for gifted students. Terry has facilitated Student Discussion Groups for middle and high school students for the past ten eight years. Terry will provide information and materials with suggestions for getting a group started, appropriate and meaningful topics for group discussions, pragmatic ways to facilitate these discussions, and resources that provide practical information and activities.

If you’re attending the SENG Summit, I hope you’ll come to my session and say “hi”.

I have for many years been one of the few national SENG Facilitator Trainers. During the school year I conduct workshops in Colorado and the west with educators, counselors and psychologists to instruct them on how to start their own SENG Model Parent Groups. I’ve also facilitated my own SMPG’s for 10 years.
